Guy's Wake up it's Holiday Season Again :) Time to earn some $ Online :)

Hey, it’s Christmas holiday season again :).
Though it seems the recession is over, consumers are still feeling the pinch.
According to new Yahoo! research, most U.S. consumers surveyed say that they expect to spend less this holiday season.

Based on research, here are five challenges and solutions for making this holiday selling season a success.

Challenge: Some 85 percent of shoppers surveyed say they will spend less this year than they did last year.

Solution: Appeal to conservative shoppers with incentives, coupons, sales, free shipping and other exciting promotions.

Challenge: Holiday shopping starts earlier every year. Back in 2006, consumers generally started their holiday gift searches around September 30. This year they started around August 8—16 weeks before the start of the Christmas season!

Solution: Start your promotions early and get out in front of the competition use branding and performance campaign together.

Challenge: With earlier holiday shopping, holiday seasons tend to overlap—that is, Halloween and Thanksgiving shopping overlaps with the big, end-of-season holidays like Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Years. Note that a good percentage of holiday shoppers are searching for holiday décor.

Solution: Employ an “always on” strategy to reach consumers across overlapping holiday seasons, because shoppers clearly aren’t taking a break between the big days. Just because it’s Halloween, that’s no reason not to promote Thanksgiving, Hanukkah or Christmas. This should be reflected in your keywords and ad copy on major search medium all the time.

Challenge: More and more consumers are looking for coupons and free offers. In fact, the research revealed a 61 percent year over year increase in searches for free offers and coupons.

Solution: Make it easy for consumers to find out about your deals on the website. Your keywords and ad copy should include your special offers.

Challenge: Interest in free shipping increases as shipping deadlines get closer.

Solution: Remember your customers at the end of the transaction, not just at the beginning. Make their searches easier by adding keywords and ad copy that reflects your intention to offer free or discounted shipping.

Cheers

From past few days heared a lot about Google Chrome and just being curious searched for it and came to know what is Google Chrome?

Google is releasing a new web browser tomorrow called Google Chrome?
So what would Google Chrome have that you can't find in other web browsers?
  • Includes a brand new JavaScript virtual machine called V8
  • Tabs wil go above the window, not below the address bar
  • Location bar will support auto-complete functions and suggests web pages you've previously visited as well as suggested sites you haven't
  • Upon launch, you'll see an Opera-like speed dial with bookmarks and thumbnails for up to web sites
  • There will be a privacy mode that allows you to surf without saving any personal history (Microsoft is building a similar feature into Internet Explorer 8)
  • The browser will constantly download up to date information about web sites with malicious code
By the way let em tell you what browser i am using now a days.
Hmmmm it is Safari recently launched by Apple for Windows for Freeeeeeeeee
You can download it here

Data is Important why?

Data is important why?

I truly believe that storing visitor's data is important and using the stored data in efficient manner is very very important. Not quite sure but the result of storing data is somehow reflecting in Google's recently launched product Ad Planner.Using this advertiser can take benefit of Demographics as well as the gender criteria too.So now i think you can get the idea of how useful the Google Ad Planner gonna be for advertiser and the reason behind it the data only.

The basic use of the data is mug it for analysis purpose and then present it in a way that can give you insight of what is going wrong or what is giving good return.

And you should not forget that we have a free tool called Google Analytics to store the data and analyze it free of cost.

So make a note to store and analyze the data everyday.

Blogging A Platform for Advertising in Bollywood

Oops i should say "Blogging A Platform for Web Advertising in Bollywood Too"
Why i think this is because now a days biggest celebrity like Amitabh Bachchan and Amir Khan become avid blogger and they are utilizing this medium like a mature advertisers and truely cashing the benefit of web advertising.

It is true that blog are tool of advertising (no doubts as i know few people who is making money from their blog by letting advertiser advertise on their blog , and the good thing is
advertiser is getting good ROI) and stars are using it well to promote themselves.Blogs provides a good visibility but a celebrity should be clear about what he wants to do with his blog.

I think the advantage a celebrity can have by writing a blog is

  • Post What they think
  • Make it beautiful by uploading pic or their videos
  • Their views about a product or service
  • Interact directly with the audience
  • Put the upcoming trailer of their movie

So celebrities are getting all the benefits of blogging.

You Know Testing is Going Mainstream when

Found this article really interesting on Google Website Optimizer Blog today and cant resist myself to put it on this blog for you guys
to read the actual post goto http://websiteoptimizer.blogspot.com/2008/07/you-know-testing-is-going-mainstream.html

Enjoy....

People start drawing testing cartoons. I was speaking at a conference in Chicago about Website Optimizer and after the talk, one of the people in the audience showed me some cartoons he had doodled during my presentation. I'm quite accustomed to people doodling, IM'ing, and feed reading during my presentations and it's usually unrelated to what I'm talking about. I was quite impressed when Sean D'Souza offered to actually show me his drawings. I thought, wow, this guy has come chutzpah.

To my surprise, the drawings all related to a number of points about testing that I was trying to convey via bullet points in my presentation. Here are some of my favorites, with my reactions:

Takeaway: Online testing is enabling its adopters to outpace competition who keep sending precious traffic to poorly performing pages.

Takeaway: This is how some folks feel when seeing poorly designed landing pages. On the one hand, we feel there's an opportunity to help people dramatically improve their websites. On the other hand, it's sometimes shocking to see how sub-optimal landing pages can be.

Takeaway: People can get really, really zealous once they get into website optimization. Obviously, this idea takes testing a tad too far, but it's not the first time we've heard people take it to heart.

Takeaway: Unless you have tons of traffic, your best opportunity to boost conversion rates with statistical significance is to try some really big changes (think dramatic layout and visual changes plus text changes as opposed to pure text tweaks alone).

Takeaway: Sometimes people get so happy after they've launched their experiment that they obsessively check reports expecting one combination to pull away instantly. The goal is to be patient and understand that you want to find the long-term winner, not this hour's random winner.

Takeaway: This is one of my favorites. Sometimes people try to create as complicated and large tests as they can without realizing that a simple A/B test often gets you 80% of the gains with 20% the complexity and effort.

Thanks to Sean for sending us the pics. We heart them.

Increasing Petrol Price

Wondering why i am writing something about petrol prices in a Blog related to Search Engine Optimization, Marketing and Web Analytics .I was just thinking what could be the effect of petrol prices hike on search marketing etc.So here is what i think...

People are driving less to save money so online advertiser can take advantage of this
According to a recent study by the National Retail Federation, 40% of Americans say they’re driving less due to high gas prices, and only one in ten respondents said they planned to travel for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

So what effect it could drive on indian shoppers who still think the online shopping is not so reliable. The online advertisers in india should take advantage of this situation and give some attracting punchline to customer and i am sure this will increase their sales up to some extent.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to fill up your online campaigns with some high-octane ads or launch a specific new one targeted to the visitor segment who are worried about the petrol price hike in India and looking to save money accordingly.

If you need help in how to strategies the campaign for this just drop a comment :)

Microsoft eyes Yahoo

A quick post .......
After months of thinking about it finally Microsoft eyes Yahoo for $44b.
So in my view the web search market share of MSN and Yahoo will be around 30% after this deal is done.Whereas Google is having around 56% ...
Still around just 50% of Google's Search market share.
Long way to go for Microsoft and Yahoo together.
But one thing is for sure the web advertiser will see some useful changes in the coming month.
Stay tuned for more

WebCamp in Chennai

A WebCamp event will be held in Chennai, India at the end of February.
The topic of this workshop will be Web frameworks for the the present and the future.

Overview
A number of frameworks are available for developing web applications. Some of the popular ones include Ruby on Rails, django, erlyweb, Spring and also .Net. The most common problem any startup or even few enterprises face is to decide between these frameworks. Few developers have managed to identify the best framework that would suit a given requirement by trying out different ones. Why not share this knowledge with the community so that everyone could get benefited? How about sharing some of the best practices or patterns, that you might have developed out of your experiences?
This is going to be a pure technical event and we are not going to invite any non-technical person at all. We would also organize a moderated debate, where a use case or scenario would be announced and the group would try to arrive at the best framework that would suit the particular purpose. Again very technical with concepts like mnesia, or hibernate or ActiveRecord or whatever being discussed.
And we all know that the size of the devices keep shrinking. Mobiles might overtake the number of computers. Which of these frameworks are mobile ready? Which is the best framework for mobile web apps? If none of the web apps are suiting the purpose, what a typical developer is looking for from these frameworks?
Be ready to answer/find out answers for such questions in this first unconference from India!
Venue and Date would be announced soon. Stay tuned!

Prabhu Subramanian (Blog)

Google Adwords How are ads ranked ?

Most of the advertiser is worried about the position of their ads in Google Adwords. So for newcomer :D how Google is determining the position of the ad of the advertiser.

Keyword-targeted ads are ranked on search results and content pages based on their maximum cost-per-click (CPC) and Quality Score. (For the top positions above Google search results, Google uses the actual CPC.) The Quality Score is determined by the keyword's clickthrough
rate (CTR), relevance of ad text, historical keyword performance, and other relevancy factors.

Ad Rank = CPC X Quality Score

Having relevant keywords and ad text, a high CPC, and a strong CTR will result in a higher position for your ad. Because this ranking system rewards well-targeted, relevant ads, you can't be locked out of the top position as you would be in a ranking system based solely on price.

So next time while starting a PPC campaign on Google keep above theory in mind. For more info check this link
